Happy Holidays and a Joyful New Year from all of us at Winnifred Stewart!

As we wrap up an incredible year, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support. Together, we've made a lasting impact, and your dedication fuels our mission to ensure everyone has a voice, a choice, and a place to belong.

2024 was a milestone year for us!
Here's what we've accomplished together:

  • Winnifred Stewart is rolling out our new brand and logo, a fresh look that reflects our evolution and future. The solid, stable "W" symbolizes our legacy and trustworthiness, while the dynamic, colorful “S” pushes through the status quo—creative, agile, and breaking lines without tearing apart. Our new logo showcases our impact on the community, highlighting our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

  • In June, we proudly achieved Level 2 CET accreditation through the Alberta Council of Disability Services, the highest level that can be achieved—a testament to our unwavering commitment to advanced person-centered practices. This milestone enhances opportunities for advocacy, inclusion, and meaningful connections for the individuals we support, reflecting our dedication to continually raising the bar in service delivery.

  • Additionally, we earned the Complex Support Needs Designation, recognizing our ability to provide tailored, comprehensive care for individuals with diverse and higher-level needs. This designation reinforces our mission to empower individuals to thrive with dignity, respect, and the resources they need to lead fulfilling and connected lives.

  • Our annual Summer Celebration this year embraced the theme “Around the World”, showcasing the unique and enriching cultures of our individuals and staff. We hosted an "Around the World" booth where many countries were exhibited, including Africa, Ukraine, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Jamaica, England, and more. The event also featured vibrant performances, and everyone enjoyed a delicious hot dog lunch with creative combinations. It was a celebration of diversity, connection, and community spirit!

  • Thanks to the generous $340,000 grant from the Government of Alberta, we are proud to further our mission with the development of Joey’s Home Mindful Hearts Memory Care Centre. This transformative project honors the legacy of Joey Moss, a beloved figure who inspired a community to embrace inclusion and celebrate diversity. As a specialized facility providing inclusive care for individuals with dementia and intellectual disabilities, Joey’s Home represents a significant step in creating environments where dignity, comfort, and community come together, setting a new standard for person-centered dementia care.

  • Due to the Canada Post strike, that interrupted our usual yearly mail campaign, we launched a digital campaign to raise funds for much-needed renovations at one of our homes. The campaign addresses issues like mold and outdated bathrooms. While the mold-affected area is sectioned off and air quality is tested regularly, your support will help us create a more inclusive and accessible environment for residents like Ron, whose story we shared. We are committed to continuing this important campaign in the new year, and with your help, we know we can reach that goal. As we look ahead to 2025, we’re filled with excitement for the opportunities to come. Your continued support empowers us to aim high and work together toward building an inclusive future for all.

Wishing you and your loved ones a holiday season filled with warmth, joy, and peace. Here’s to an even brighter 2025!

Warmly,
Emily Ruttan
